Pirates in the Plaza to benefit Treasure House
Washougal, WA – Pirates are gathering in downtown Washougal and bringing with them music, dancing and sword fights for a fun and festive event for the whole community. Pirates in the Plaza will be held Saturday August 6th from 5-10 p.m. at Reflection Plaza in downtown Washougal. The free, family-friendly concert will feature the musical mayhem of BilgeRats & Pyrettes, and dancing by Bellissimonde, Bridgetown Morris Men and Washougal’s Dayley Dance Academy.
“We are excited to welcome back this energetic group who entertained the community last year at the Square Rig Shindig at Doomsday Brewing,” said Suzanne Grover, event committee member. “We hope everyone will join the pirate spirit of the event and come in their best pirate costume. There will even be a contest for the crowds’ favorite!” Prizes will be given for three age groups, 9 and under, 10-18, and adult. The adult prize will be a gift certificate for a family lunch or breakfast at downtown Washougal’s OurBar Restaurant.
Presented by Mary Jane’s House of Glass, Downtown Washougal Association, River Talk Weekly, and City of Washougal, the event will benefit Inter-Faith Treasure House. “The concert is free, but we hope those who attend will bring some booty to donate for the Inter-Faith Treasure House’s Backpack Home Program that helps to feed Camas and Washougal school kids,” Grover said. “They need healthy, quick-fix and heat-and-serve food items to send home with 150 children for weekend meals through the school year.” Example of needed items are soups, macaroni and cheese, fruit cups, granola bars and oatmeal.
In addition to music and dancing, a “grog garden” will be provided by DWA. The beer selection will feature Washougal breweries: Doomsday, Amnesia and 54-40. A portion of the event and grog sale proceeds will benefit Inter-Faith Treasure House and DWA. Mary Jane’s House of Glass will be doing glass blowing demonstrations of their artistic glass pieces.
Other sponsors are Green Construction and ERS. The event is also sponsored in part by City of Washougal Lodging Tax funds.
